Bangladesh-EU Shrimp Market Consultation Follow-up in Dhaka

May 31, 2019

Yesterday, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Solidaridad Network organized a round table discussion, entitled “Bangladesh-EU Shrimp Market Consultation”, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries. Follow up to the similarly named consultation conference, held earlier this year in Utrecht, the Netherlands, the round table aims to enhance Bangladesh’s market share of global shrimp trade, particularly trade to the EU.

Stakeholders urge public-private partnerships to support the development of the production-export of the unique Black Tiger shrimp and collective and coordinated effort towards positioning and marketing Black Tiger shrimp as a signature product. Like the Utrecht event, the consult attracted a high-level stakeholder group.

Chaired by Mr. Abu Sayed Md. Rashedul Haque, Director General of the Department of Fisheries, special guests included Mr. Md. Raisul Alam Mondal, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, as Chief Guest, and Dutch ambassador Mr. Harry Verweij and the last President of the Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association, Mr. Md. Amin Ullah. Multiple shrimp exporters, academicians, researchers, and NGO representatives were also present.
