Pangasius farming on Sumatra, Kalimantan and East Java is mostly done in ponds, while farmers in West Java use floating nets. Stocking density in ponds is over 20 fingerlings per m3, with average harvest weight of approximately 800 g per fish.
Average pond size ranges between 2 – 10 hectares. Several pangasius production centres of varying sizes can be found in each province. For example, in the Banjar district (South Kalimantan) the production centre covers around 60 hectares, while in the Jambi district (Sumatra) the production centre is about 10 ha, and others cover areas of 20 hectares.
