The more vertically integrated companies have more direct lines to farmers, by using their own licensed agents to go to the farms that are being harvested. At the harvest sites traders enter a bidding contest to buy the shrimp and afterwards help with coordinating the harvest and transport to the processing plants. Individual farmers can also use middleman who help with the harvest and bring the chilled shrimp to fresh local markets where independent traders are able buy, count and re-sell the shrimp to processors. Infrastructure in Thailand is well developed, and transport times usually takes between 2-6 hours.
