STIP in a “Shrimp Shell”

What a year. We partnered with the Global Aquaculture Alliance as a contributing partner for the Global Outlook for Aquaculture Leadership conference 2019, sponsored INFOFISH’s World Shrimp 2019 event and are almost ready to publish the December edition of ShrimpTails, the 8th edition, and the last one of the year.

Speaking of ShrimpTails, our magazine has just completed its second full year of publication! To date, across the eight editions, there have been 13 infographics, 24 Market Updates, 40 Sourcing Updates, and 105 Background Stories in the 610 pages that ShrimpTails has published, attracting over 50,000 reads.

Through the Aquaculture Innovation Challenge, STIP helped to connect innovators who boast ground-breaking ideas to improve the sustainability of the Indonesian shrimp industry with the required knowledge, networks, finance or capital to make it work. The event was a success, with over 50 initial applicants being whittled down to the final five, who presented their innovations to an expert panel of judges and an audience full of industry professionals.

We have been working tirelessly, with Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries (CBI), to promote more sustainable production of seafood by giving developing country producers access to the information they need to better introduce their products to the European market. As always, we have also been working for and with our members to support them in their intelligence needs.

Furthermore, with the help of STIP Business Development Intern Sean Quibell, we have been developing an extension to our Farm Gate Price Portal. This will provide more than the farm gate prices currently available and give our members more, more actionable price information.

It’s been a busy and successful 2019, and we want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for all of your support. We wish you the best of luck through the end of the year and wish you an increasingly productive and sustainable 2020 and beyond.

We are looking forward to taking a little time off, to rest, reflect and come back full of energy for 2020. Our offices will be closed from December 25th until the 2nd of January, and on the 6th, STIP members will receive 2020’s first Price Portal Update.

Kind regards and seasons greetings from the STIP team.

Alternatives to shrimp?

The December 2019 edition will zoom in on alternatives to shrimp. As Deputy-Editor-in-Chief Sophia Balod wrote in the recent ShrimpTails Special from World Shrimp 2019, “What shrimp alternatives are available, and what are they made of? Are they direct competition to shrimp products, or catering to a completely different market? Dive into these questions and more!”

Supporting deloping country exporters

Over the last few months, we have been producing a range of reports for the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries. These reports aim to help developing world producers to gain market access in Europe and those produced by STIP focus on fish and seafood products.
